"Vintner", Inkeeper of the "Sun Inn" in Newmilns, in the main street opposite the established Kirks. Records have it there was stil a "Sun Inn" owned by a Miss Smith during 1870's. (James Wyllie's later James Morris)

Moses lived at the time of the Merry Monarch, Charles II (1630-1685) and he became king at the Restoration in 1660.

"Moses Smith was an employer of men" (Granpa Smith)

Jean Smith: Sister of Moses SMith, Married John Morton (blacksmith).  John (Smith) Morton was probably the son of John Morton, blacksmith who was famous for fighting with Captain John Nisbit at the battle of Drunclog (1679).

This famous John Morton had three sons:

John (Backsmith)
Alexander (Weaver)
William (Mason)
It appears that this son John Norton (1) above married Jean Smith.
