History of Darvel: p38 "describes how many looms were not productive anymore , they had dropped from full employment 1870 to only 226 of over 600being productive. "In passing I might add that in those far off days Hugh Smith and John Lawson were the crack munters, ...."
Munter being an ugly person or boozer ?? or is this used in different context?

I would assume this is the Hugh he is referring to. with John Lawson married to his sister Agnes
