SLABBER- Overleden aan hun woning Schilpadvlei, op de 15de Mei, onze vader Jacobus Hendrik Slabber, in zijn 81 ste jaar en 8 later onze moeder Margaretha Johanna Maria Jordaan, in haa 79ste jaar. Gehuwd in 1857 werd hul huwelik gezegend met 11 kinderen waarvan slechts een ongehuwd stierf. Zij bleven beiden hun krachten behouden tot ongeveer 6 maanden geleden toen onze vader begon te verzwakken. Jij was echter meer een week in bed, terwijl onze moeder maar een dag ziek was. Zij rusten beiden in eengraf. Van hen is waar wat Ps 90:10 staat, " Aangaande de dagen onzer jaren, daarin zijn 70 jaren, of zoo wij zeer sterk zijn, 80 jaren, en het uitnemendste van die is moeite en verdriet: want het wordt schielijk afgesneden en wij vliegen daarheen." Onze korte, droeve dagen, Vol van jamren en geween, Snellen spoedig onder het, klagen Ongemerkt als droomen heen: Want ons leven en ons leed Zijn een hand, een hand slechts breed.
